Information and guidance will be provided on support and therapy to assist an autistic girl or woman to develop a positive sense of self, enhance strategies for self-advocacy, executive functioning, emotional understanding and regulation, improve friendship and relationship abilities from early childhood to the adult years, and understand how aspects of autism can contribute to a successful career. Â
Adaptations to conventional therapy will be explained to accommodate the profile of abilities and experiences of autistic girls and women in the treatment of common clinical presentations, including anxiety and depression, eating disorders, and gender dysphoria.Â
To understand the reasons for difficulties with emotion perception, expression, and regulation for autistic girls and women.
Recognition of the effects of alexithymia, impaired interoception and emotional empathy on the ability to experience and express emotions.
To know how to adapt therapy to accommodate aspects of autism to enhance therapeutic effectiveness for autistic girls and women.
To learn strategies to treat anxiety, burnout and depression in autistic girls and women.
Understand issues regarding self-identity and low self-esteem for autistic girls and women, and strategies to strengthen the concept of self and enhance self-esteem and resilience.
Understand issues and strategies regarding vulnerability to bullying, teasing, social rejection and sexual abuse.
Learn strategies for developing a social network across childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
Choose resources to improve social processing abilities from childhood through to the adult years.
To gain an understanding of the challenges and potential solutions for autistic women in achieving and maintaining meaningful employment, long-term relationships and being a mother.
