Autistic people commonly experience difficulties with interoception, leading to a ‘mind-body disconnect’ and a life that is dominated by sensory overwhelm and overthinking. Learning to sense the body can be a way out of both experiences. Sensing the body allows healing from distressing emotions such as trauma and grief – it also increases connection to the self and others. Our course provides strategies on how to build interoceptive awareness.
Understand the importance of interoception for self-awareness, emotion regulation, healing emotional pain and connection to others
Know the association of difficulties with interoception for autistic people and the reasons for the association
Learn safe strategies for increasing interoceptive awareness
Understand what mindfulness is and how it relates to interoception
Know the potential benefits and pitfalls of mindful practices, particularly for neurodivergent people
