Continuing Professional Development
Research has shown over several decades that it is very common for autistic individuals to also have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, with some research studies estimating the co-occurrence is up to 70%. Even if the person does not meet the full diagnostic criteria for ADHD, they often experience daily problems with executive function, including difficulties with focus, concentration, planning, organisation, time management, impulsivity and completing tasks. Without understanding and managing ADHD, outcome can be suboptimal – from under-employment to the development of mental health disorder/s, high levels of stress and life dissatisfaction. Happily, recognition, understanding and management of ADHD are associated with far better outcomes, including reaching one’s full potential.
This full day course will cover the latest research on autism and ADHD, the additional strengths and challenges of being both, and strategies to cope across school, work, leisure and home. AuDHD (the combination of autism and ADHD) across the age span will be covered. The purpose of the workshop is to equip participants to understand and support ADHD, whether autism is part of the person’s profile or not.
