Whilst aggression is not part of being autistic, an autistic person can become stuck in a cycle of repeated aggressive episodes. The autistic person often feels shame and remorse after acting aggressively. Parents and carers can hold fears for their own safety and the safety of other members of the family.
In this course we assist parents and professionals to recognise the background stressors behind and the potential triggers for aggressive behaviour, the early signs of rising agitation and strategies to use while the aggression is occurring. We also cover the importance of a safety plan and how to address the underlying causes of aggression, to prevent further incidents.Â
